What is Wheels to Shine?

In May 2017, we’ll be giving away a 2000 Volkswagen Golf to someone in Ventura County who needs it. We did the work to get this car in excellent running condition, detailed, and ready to change someone’s everyday experience of life. We are stoked to meet the person who will drive this every day. Check it out: We’ve gotten the car ready to give away, but we want to make sure it goes to the person who’s life it would change the most. We really want to make a difference with this car. We need our community to help us choose a recipient. Do you know anyone in Ventura County who’s life would change if they had a great car? Nominate Them → Here’s why we’re doing it… “We” are the team at Concours Motors in Ventura. Concours Motors has been serving Ventura County families since 1982, with speciality parts and master technicians, specifically focused on European vehicles. We have been very lucky to continuously grow over the years, so that today most people who live in Ventura recognize our well-kept shop on Thompson. We believe in businesses should give back to the community that sustains them. We’ve had our doors open in the city of Ventura for 35 years. This means that we’ve had community members in our shop every day, Monday through Friday, for almost four decades. We’ve gotten to know and care about everyone and their families. The simple truth is, without the support and loyalty of our customers and our community, there would be no Concours Motors. And that’s why we think it’s so important to give back. We realized that the best way...

10 Simple Car Care Tips to Keep Your Car in Great Condition Throughout the Years

Concours Motors is a Specialty European Auto Shop in Ventura, CA. That means we see a lot of really nice cars, every day. Want to know the difference between a really nice car that lasts a long time and every other car? You guessed it. It’s the owner. We want you to be one of those “lucky” owners who posts the 200,000 miles marker on Facebook with the status: “And still running strong!” Here’s how you do it: Tip 1: Get your oil changed every 5,000 - 7,000 miles and use a reliable brand You’ve heard it before, I’m sure of it. “Engine oil is the lifeblood of your engine.” It keeps your car running. And when you let the same oil sit in your engine for too long, it can build up metals like oil that are insoluble and can cause major wear and tear on the parts of your engine, like the camshaft and cylinder liners. Long story short, changing your oil with good quality oil will ensure that what’s moving through your engine’s arteries and keeping it running well for a long time. Want to learn more about it? This article made me laugh and explains it perfectly.  Tip 2: Clean your car, inside and out, at least once a month and clean up bird poop or tree pollen off immediately Did you know when you don’t wash your car for a while it can build up a residue that degrades the paint? Even on the interior of your car, the build-up of dirt and grime can eventually lead to situations (like stains) that are much more difficult to clean. And on the subject of...

Concours Motors & Asian Autotech of Ventura are Fundraising for Breast Cancer

You probably wouldn’t expect auto shops to be raising funds for breast cancer. But then, you might not know that a huge percentage of our customers, both at Concours Motors and Asian Autotech of Ventura, are women; especially mothers (many of whom are at the age where breast cancer is commonly discovered in women). October is breast cancer awareness month, so we wanted to share a few facts from the National Breast Cancer Foundation (who we’ll be donating to) about this very common cancer: One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Each year it is estimated that over 246,660 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 440 will die each year. On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. Over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the United States today. Helping women fight breast cancer is a very important to us, and we want to help as much as we can. Both Concours Motors and Asian Autotech will donate $100 per shop for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Here’s what you can do: Come in to either shop this month and let us put a (non-damaging) shop sticker on your car. For...

More than just an oil change, it’s a service.

When most people think of an oil change, they think of the old days when cars were more machinery and less electronics. The kind of oil change you get at the corner jiffy spot, as quick as a car wash. These days, though, newer cars come with very specific factory recommendations that go into effect approximately every 7,500 miles (at the same time that they require regular oil changes). When you come into Concours Motors for an oil change, we check into all of these recommendations and make sure that each of them is either accomplished or recommended to you. So, rather than a regular oil change (check fluids, flush, refill and replenish), we’re also doing a 45-point inspection, filling all the fluids under the hood, rotating your tires, checking your brakes, lights, and wipers, and generally ensuring that your vehicle is good to go for another 7,500 miles. We use high-quality fluids for your specific model vehicle, and pay close attention to ensuring that your car is in it for the long-haul. How to make your car more sustainable for Earth Day

It seems obvious, but when you think about it — your car is one of the most important ways that you can contribute sustainability on this planet. A Time Magazine article jokes that “Like Americans themselves, American cars are getting heavier and heavier every year, the average car in the U.S. weighed over 4,000 pounds in 2010, up from an average of 3,221 pounds in 1987. That weight extra 800 pounds, as you can imagine, makes a huge difference in terms of fuel-efficiency and the carbon footprint you personally leave on this planet. So, for Earth Day, here are some ways that you can get your car into the best shape it’s ever been — and reduce your personal impact on the planet (or enhance it, depending on how you look at it!). Use green driving best practices Driving technique has a lot to do with your fuel economy. Avoid sudden starts and stops and go the speed limit. Driving consistently puts a lot less pressure on your engine to get back up to speed every time you have to slow or stop. Tires Pumping up our tires is routine maintenance but it’s something lots of us will forget about until it becomes a problem. Just because your car is still driving okay doesn’t mean it couldn’t benefit from a top up of air and it’s free at many gas stations. If each time you top up your car with gas you also top it up with air, then you’ll use less fuel to travel the same distances and you’ll get around faster too. Weight When you look in...
